Interesting read Robert - and a topic that's not going anywhere. ChatGPT has certainly turned a few things upside down - many articles, opinions and perspectives. Like many rapid changes that face humans, AI has been around for over a decade, it was this particular platform/tool that skyrocketed the discussion. Now upwards of 100 million users.

It's a game-changer of a tool, however, we also shouldn't forget AI is embedded in all sorts of day-to-day tools - even Google. What is Siri for example, for those using an Apple product?

The intermingling of ChatGPT and Microsoft Bing will be another big change. After 6 weeks of using ChatGPT daily, I find a Google search rather dull, flat and sometimes useless. I now use it to 'fact-check' what ChatGPT gave me.

Version 4 will be a mind-blower. Stay tuned. ;)

Glad to see you get your Substack launched!

I never thought about it that way, I am an apple user and understand your point of view, I guess this really effects writing, which has now become a passion and I feel people using it should not get paid for clicking a few buttons having no inspiration themselves!!!

Thank you for giving me an alternative perspective on it.

I have never used AI for writing. Reading this post, it was clear that the answers were robot-generated because of the style and form of the writing. I was slightly surprised that the bot said it would not replace human writers “in the near future. It had asimilar response to the question about computers taking over the world- “not yet.”

The recommendations for writers to improve was also a touch menacing. I read it as a warning that we need to improve our “game” to compete with AI in areas where a human’s touch isn’t essential.

Thanks for sharing this!

Yes I agree, it is a scary world and AI is definitely here to stay. It would be good if they could "watermark" AI content to keep things transparent.

Well, thank you for offering up this experiment--I thought it was really interesting. I have no experience with it myself so this was helpful.

You are more than welcome, it was my first exposure to AI also :)

I particularly enjoyed your latter questions to test Chat at a deeper level. Chat sounds like the answers are all pre-assembled. How that works, I don't have the slightest idea.

Work in progress, I am not sure I like it though!!!

I thought I was about to discover Medium’s secret algorithm! :)

I think ChatGPT is a fantastic TOOL to support writers but it will always miss the human element of storytelling and the ability to read the audience.

It would have been great if AI knew, I may not have published it then and kept the secret to myself lol

The article was decent but bland. My bigger concern is not the quality of writing but where ChatBPT is getting the information. And how does a writer source material is they didn't find the source material themselves?

A very valid point, which I do not have the answer to, it is interesting you say the article was bland, because that was my feelings on it to. This is the first experience I have with it, and I must say that although it is clever, I am not that impressed.

Hi Ralph. I often use AI to write FAQs in my day job. I think it’s really only good for short and simple text. It’s tone is so obviously robotic.

Yes, I understand your point of view, I am just exploring the hype at this stage

Thank you Dr Rawson, it is great to connect with you on Substack too!

I am not a fan of AI, for me it just feels like cheating, but the world moves on so thought it was a topic I should cover.
