Introduction
An article that is always popular on Medium is when I reveal my monthly earnings. I usually set a goal at the begging of each year and then report back to show how well I have done. At least, that is the hope. Of course, not every month is successful, but that is ok. I report on that too.
A New Structure
I will continue to reveal my earnings on Medium. However, if you are a subscriber on Substack, you will get the information first and my thoughts on why my month went well or why I think it was poor.
I will also break down some of the reasons my top article did so well. Some of these tips I hope will work for you in your writing career, as I always say, #Strongertogether.
My Goals For 2023
As previously mentioned, my goals have gone away from earnings this year, well, I have set myself an earnings goal, but this is a secondary target.
I want to reach a following of 10,000 followers.
I want to increase my YouTube subscribers to 3,000
I would like to increase my services on Fiverr from 2 gigs to 5 gigs
I would like to start on Substack
I would like to create some shots on Tiktok
Results To Date & My Earnings
Ok, so moving on to my results, I will list them in the same order as my above goals:
I have 6,900 followers (3,100 to go during 2023)
I have 1,700 subscribers on YouTube (1,300 to go)
I still have 2 gig options on Fiverr (I have spent very little time on it during January.)
Yes, I have now started on Substack (Go me! maybe I should have given myself a subscriber goal)
I am on Tiktock, but not done any shorts yet (again, I maybe should have put a number on this!!!)
For those interested, I earned $410.38 during January 2023, which is about average for myself. Interestingly, I only published 20 articles, giving each one an average of $20.52, which is encouraging.
Some Of My Top Articles
I wanted to share my thoughts on some of my top articles during January and the reasons why I think they did well. Here is the first one.
As you can see. “Changes are coming to New Writers Welcome” had a good audience, so it is not hard to see why this one did so well. Many of the publication's followers were curious about the changes, so this was a strong title.
A strong title is one of the major reasons a reader may click on your article. I sometimes spend 10-15 minutes writing a title because I know its importance.
Maybe a bit naughty of me (shucks"!) Zulie is my Medium Queen, and I was shocked to find out that she does not actually exist. Yes, that is her “pen name” she announced this back in 2021, so I was well late to the party on this one.
Readers love to keep up to date with the latest changes. We are all hungry for information. An old boss once told me, “knowledge is power”, and most of us want to find out first.
My Conclusion
All three of these titles give you an idea of the content. They are a little mysterious and leave the reader wanting to know more. So, this is my first tip, really think about how to attract a reader to click on your article. Do not give them the answer, but allude to them the fact you have information that they don’t.
Thanks for reading. Please let me know if you have any questions.
You are always moving and shaking, Robert. I envy you at times, but I'd be so worn out if I had your determination!
