Introduction
Most of us have felt the Medium pinch, with writers earning less monthly compared to the past twelve months. There were titles such as “Medium is dying” or “Is this the end of Medium”, etc.
took charge, and in his article “Boosting the boost”, along with an interview with
the future seemed very bright, and many writers had a resurgence, but what has happened since?
The Wait
I understand that Medium is a big ship to turn, and we all have our own ideas of how to improve things. However, there is only one CEO, and the coach is driving this ship in his own direction.
In his article/interview, he mentioned that a boost program would be introduced. The other thing that pricked my ears was that “editors will get paid”.
When would this happen? No date was given, just a mention of “soon”. A trial was given with a selected few publications given the authority to “boost “ articles. This is completely understandable, as Coach Tony would need to make some “tweaks” before launching this to more publications.
To my knowledge, no editors are getting paid, but please let me know if I am wrong or if you know this has been launched. The indication that I had was this would be spread to all publications and not the “chosen few”.
The Reality So Far
I have read articles where a writer mentioned that their article had been boosted, such as “How Much Did My Medium Boost Actually Boost Me?” by Melissa Gray and “How Did Medium Boost Change My Earnings " Stats?” by
.
I would not say this has been groundbreaking; again, from my experience, these boosts are few and far between. However, I am pleased to see this feature is helpful to some.
What about editors getting paid? I have not seen a single article about this, have you? Several writers have covered the topic, but I have seen no evidence of paying editors to date.
Broken Promise Or A Delay?
So, what is the delay? Have promises been made that cannot be upheld? Is there a delay due to technical issues? The honest answer is I do not know. Despite searching Medium for an answer, I do not have one for you.
What does the future hold? For me, there has been very little movement, and I hope that due to the complexity and algorithm, this is the only reason for the delay and not because Medium is dying or running out of money.
My Conclusion
I still believe in what
is trying to achieve and know his heart is in the right place for both writer and reader. He seems to be an honourable man with a great attitude.
I have felt the loss of members on Medium through the referral program. My numbers are heading in the wrong direction. Honestly, Medium is not my first point of call as we stand. I am, however, logging on daily to edit and approve writers to my publications, “New Writers Welcome” and “What is Love to you?”.
If I did not own those publications, I might not be writing on Medium today, but my loyalty keeps me on this platform for now. Like any other writer, I have passion and do not need motivation, but I currently feel “de-motivated” by Medium, which is not a nice feeling.
Let me know what your story is regarding this topic. I would love to hear your thoughts. Are you getting paid as an editor? How many articles have you had boosted? Let me know in the comments section below.
I've just been accepted into the Partner Program on my other account. Though I've been writing for a year now. I guess I missed the gold rush.
